2006 La Posta del Viñatero Malbec Pizzella Vineyard (Argentina)
Paula and Pablo Pizzella are relative newcomers to Mendoza Province, but their early success growing cool-climate Malbec grapes is quickly drawing attention.

Don't be concerned if you find yourself inhaling deeply from your glass, over and over... it is just your nose's way of telling you that it wants more!

This is a medium-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life and a perfect wine to be enjoyed with good food and friends. It goes well with everything from hamburgers and chicken to pizza and mild cheeses.

A beautiful red/purple color, it features aromas of red cherries, red raspberries, dark chocolate and baker's spice. On the palate, it has fresh, vibrant red berry flavor along with hints of sandalwood, spice, and violets in the finish. It is an awesome value as well and a wine that you would not want to miss, especially if you favor Malbecs.

Peachy Canyon Incredible Red Zinfandel
Peachy Canyon Winery is a premium Paso Robles California winemaker that consistently produces some of California's best premium wines.

The Consumer Reports #10 on its list of "Great Wines at a Great Price," the Peachy Canyon Incredible Red Zinfandel is is a crowd-pleaser that would be perfect for an outdoor party or picnic. The aroma is almost pure berries and the flavor is a tart cherry with notes of blackberry, some oak and mild acidity in the finish. It’s medium bodied, and not really a big or complex Zin. But its fruit-forward nature appeals to a wider audience, making it a great selection for any occasion.

Chateau de Sancerre, Sancerre
This is the only wine that can be sold under the name Chateau de Sancerre, the 10th century mansion built next to the hilltop town overlooking the Loire River in the province of Sancerre.

The area was once known for the production of the Pinot Noir grape until the 20th century, when the Sancerre area was devastated by phylloxera. The vineyards were later replanted in Sauvignon Blanc and in 1936, the Sancerre white was given AOC status, or a controlled label of origin.

This classic Sancerre is completely stainless steel fermented and kept on lees in order to preserve its freshness. The vineyard is south facing and includes clay, limestone and flint. The 2005 vintage is a little bit softer than 2004, according to the experts. But the wine has a great pale gold brilliant color and nice fluid texture. On the nose, it is intense with notes of fresh flowers, peach and melon. At the palate, it is sharp, vibrant, clean and fresh. The finish is long and reminiscent of oranges.

A prefect compliment to shellfish, white fish and other light summer fare. Best enjoyed… Right away!

Red Wines

Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon has a well defined aroma. In Old World wines, particularly those made in Bordeaux, this is characterised by a smell of violets, blackcurrant, cedar and spice. New World wines of this grape can often share the aromas of their Old World counterparts, but are more often dominated by aromas of chocolate, ripe jammy berries, oak, pepper and earth. In Australia, there is often a strong note of eucalyptus.

Kiona Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Kiona is an internationally known vineyard in the upper Yakima Valley of Washington State. Blended from select vineyards, this Washington State Cabernet is made of entirely free-run juice. The wine is taken through a complete malo-lactic fermentation process to further improve the complexity and richness. It is then aged in French and American Oak for approximately 18 months.

Deep colored with moderate to high bull well-integrated tannins, it will stand cellaring for additional years. However, the Bordeaux style blending with a bit of Merlot and Cabernet Franc will make an ideal wine now for any occasion.
State: Washington
Appelation: Yakima Valley
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Rating: 89 points Wine Spectator

Steltzner 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon
You will not find a rating on any of the Steltzner wines. The winery, located on a small parcel of land in the heart of the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, California, doesn’t submit its wines for review by Wine Spectator. But everyone would still agree that Steltzner makes some of Napa Valley’s most distinctive Cabernets and Merlots. The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception. The wine is a brilliant deep red color with sweet and smoky aromas of black cherry, cassis, unsweetened chocolate and vanilla and hints of cedar. The silky, expansive palate evokes a medley of ripe blueberry, blackberry and cherry flavors, woven with notes of smoke and tobacco. Supple tannins highlight a long, full finish, accented by a range of dried currant, white pepper, vanilla and cream. This wine can be enjoyed now or will reward cellaring for 2 to 3 years.

Sterling 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon
The grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon come primarily from selected vineyards in the Napa Valley. The individual lots for this wine were fermented separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel with three pump-overs daily. After being blended, the wine was aged for another 12 months in toasted French and American oak barrels. Dark ruby in color, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon opens to spicy notes of raspberry and black cherry with hints of cedar and toasty oak. Flavors of briar, blackberries, raspberries, hints of roasted coffee and an earthy, savory spiciness coat the palate, and lead to a long, elegant finish. The mouth-filling tannins make this wine a perfect accompaniment to barbecued steaks and lamb chops, as well as richer pasta dishes and ripe cheeses. “An exceptional value in Napa Valley Cabernet. Drink now through 2008,” recommends James Laube of Wine Spectator, who gives it an 88 pt. rating.

A to Z Pinot Noir
A to Z is a partnership of two winemaking families. Founded just three years ago, the label already has earned Food & Wine Magazine's award for best Pinot Noir under $20. The wine is blended from a variety of Oregon estates to have a broader consumer appeal. But the wine remains complex enough to satisfy even more discerning individuals. A very aromatic wine with evident "tannic," or earthy flavors, the A to Z pinot noir is a good example of a wine that was tailored to be combined with food.
State: Oregon
Variety: Pinot Noir

Shiraz
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called "typical" though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these "primary" notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory "tertiary" notes such as leather and truffle.

Kilikanoon The Lacky Shiraz 2005
Kilikanoon produces some of the world’s finest full-flavored, dry reds. In fact, Robert Parker describes Kilikanoon as “one of the most brilliantly run wineries in Australia” due to the talents of winemaker Kevin Mitchell.

The Lacky is made exclusively for the U.S. and it is tailored to emphasize the ripe, classic, South Australian Shiraz grape. The Lacky is aged in old oak and bottled with no fining or filtration. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and elegant, it reveals plenty of berry fruit, pepper, chocolate, and new saddle leather characteristics. Drink this spicy, earthy effort over the next 2-3 years.

Zinfandel
Commonly referred to as "Zin", Zinfandel is popular in California for its intense fruitiness and lush texture. Typically, Zinfandel tastes of white pepper with bramble and fresh or fermented red berries.

7 Deadly Zins
“Oh Lord, forgive me my zin.” Seven of Lodi's best growers allegedly gave their souls along with the first fruits of their oldest vine vineyards to this fanciful blend by Michael David vineyards. Soft and supple, this peppery wine with hints of clove eventually turns into a sinful marriage of blackberries and cherries. The finish is clean with hints of vanilla, cocoa, and mild tannins. At this price, it is sure to become one of your favorite wines.

This wine comes from Lageder's single-varietal range and offers a very rich, tropical fruit character with a value that's hard to beat.

Cristal1999 Louis Roederer Cristal Brut

"A powerful Cristal, which has all the richness of the 1999 vintage. The aromas of white flowers and cocoa lead to a palate that is rich, intense, concentrated, but restrained. It is already drinkable, but should mature well."

Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut Rose NV
California - 89 Wine Enthusiast
"It's complex and inviting, with bread dough, raspberry and vanilla, and a touch of smoky honey. The flavors are similar, with white peaches making an appearance. Medium-weight with a slightly creamy mouthful, it closes with creamy-toast flavors on the long finish. This sparkling wine will have wide appeal: It's big, open and enjoyable."
From Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, one of California's best kept secrets for great wine.

Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Anderson Valley 1999
California - 94 Wine Enthusiast
"Extraordinarily fine for its smoothness and finesse, and the way the wine glides over the palate with a yeasty creaminess that turns smoky and spicy on the finish. The dosage stands out, yet this bubbly is also very acidic now. It should age well for at least 10 years."
From the same people that brought us Cristal—but at a much nicer price. This is their top California sparkling wine.

Riesling
Riesling wines from Germany cover a vast array of tastes from sweet to off-dry halbtrocken to dry trocken. Late harvest Rieslings can ripen to become very sweet dessert wines of the beerenauslese (BA) and trockenbeerenauslese (TBA) class. Rieslings from Alsace are thick bodied wines that coat the palate and tend to be mostly very dry with a cleansing acidity. Riesling from the Pacific Northwest ranges from dry to sweet, and has a crisp lightness, often with an easily detectable peach and mineral complex.

Chateau Ste. Michelle Dr. Loosen Riesling Columbia Valley Eroica 2005
Washington - 90 Wine Spectator
"Tangy style has real finesse, off-dry but balanced with citrusy tartness that shows up the lemon and white grapefruit flavors, finishing with hints of peach and white pepper. Drink now through 2010."
Only 25,000 cases ever made — Very rare!

St. Urbans-Hoff Riesling Kabinett Okfener Bockstein 2005
Germany
An absolutely brilliant wine at an astonishing price. World class German Riesling is almost never available at this price point, but this wine fits the bill. Juicy, crisp, delicate, a little sweet, and racy, this is the perfect holiday food wine, or just to have by the glass after work. The little brother to this wine made the Wine Spectator list of top 100 wines of the world last year (this years hasn't been rated yet), and this is the more expensive and finer version- which we are selling for the same price! Even better than last year, this wine is a real treat.

Chile

Veramonte Primus 2003
Chile's Veramonte is one of many gems created by Agustin Huneeus, who also founded Concha y Toro, and California's Franciscan Oakville Estate, Mount Veeder, Estancia and Quintessa.

The Primus is Veramonte’s limited production wine. It is designed to showcase the rare Carmenère variety; a grape that was once prevalent in Bordeaux, France, when Chile first began importing French vines. This 'super-premium' blend uses Carmenere as the base. As a result, the finished wine has a concentrated blackberry and cherry flavor mingled with the spicy oak. The nose is blueberries, spice and vanilla. The finish is long and satisfying, making it a great food wine at a terrific price.

Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Puente Alto Don Melchor 2002

Matches well with steak, lamb and barbecue.

France

Chateau Haut-La Pereyre 2003 Bordeaux
All too often, many of us looking for affordable red wine rule out Bordeaux. We seem to identify this region with labels like Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, or Haut Brion that go for hundreds of dollars a bottle. But there are lots of affordable red Bordeauxs, and Chateau Haut-La Pereyre is a great example.

Ruby in color, this wine has good legs and a pretty, sweet nose of burnt sugar and cassis. Light to medium bodied and dry, it has supple tannins and tart, red-cherry flavors which linger. It’s nicely structured with good acidity. It finishes nicely, with flavors that are consistent with the initial burnt sugar and cassis. A simple, classic Bordeaux.
Varietal: Bordeaux
Region: France
State/Country: France

Domaine de la Fruitiere 2005 Muscadet Cuvee Petit M

An extraordinary palate cleanser or compliment for seafood. "True gold," according to Josh Raynolds of Stephen Tanzer's International.

A sensational “Super Tuscan” with the balance and focus to last.

Portugal

Cockburn Tawny Port 20 Year Old
Portugal - 94 Wine Spectator
"Wonderful aromas of butterscotch, toffee and honey, with just a hint of fruit. Full-bodied, with very sweet fruit and a long caramel and nutty finish. Textbook. Cockburn is the business in old tawnies right now. Drink now."
Blend of mature wines refreshed by the addition of younger 20-year-old wines.

Warre Tawny Port 10 Year Old Otima
Portugal - 90 Wine Spectator
"A ripe and rich tawny. Loads of caramel, honey and dried fruits, with just a hint of Douro bake, or iodine character. Full-bodied, sweet and very toffeelike on the palate. Long finish. Dying for nuts and Stilton. Drink now."
Goes great with Gorgonzola and Blue cheeses.

Quinta de Roriz Douro Prazo 2004
Portugal - 90 Wine Spectator
"Beautiful aroma of crushed red fruits with loads of ripe plum, cassis and smoke flavors. Well-balanced, with plenty of structure as well. Long finish of white pepper and mineral. Drink now through 2010. 1,000 cases made."
The Douro Valley is the current and historical home of the world’s finest ports.

Ramos-Pinto 1998 Ruby Port
The Ramos-Pinto Ruby has a much denser, redder color than the Tawny. An abundance of cherry, blackberry, plum, and raspberry aromas greet the nose. On the palate it is fresh, vibrant and fruity. The attack is much more voluminous than the Tawny's, due to its youthfulness. The finish is persistent and aromatic, with lingering rich fruit flavors.

Spain

Altos De La Hoya Monastrell 2005
A Robert Parker “fabulous value” wine selection, this Monastrell is a blend of 92% Monastrell and 8% Garnacha grapes from Jumilla, Spain. Records show that the Monastrell grape was used in that region as early as the 15th century. Fat and lush, this wine has deep, sweet blackcurrant and blackberry flavors with no rough edges. It “finishes dense, fresh and long, with a repeating blackberry note. This has the concentration and sappy texture of a much more expensive wine,” according to Parker, who gives it a 90 point rating.
Country: Spain
Region: Jumilla
Appellation Jumilla
Varieties: 92% Monastrell, 8% Grenache
Rating: 90 points Robert Parker

Álvaro Palacios Priorat Les Terrasses 2003
Spain - 92 Wine Spectator
"Dense, rich and smooth, this polished red offers ripe blackberry, roasted plum, dark chocolate, licorice and tobacco flavors over ripe tannins. So plush and harmonious it's easy to overlook the complexity and concentration. Drink now through 2012. 2,500 cases imported."
The great taste of Priorat at an affordable price.

Bodegas Montecillo Rioja Gran Reserva 1996
Spain - 90 Wine Spectator
"Ripe and generous. This full-bodied red is plump with black plum and briary flavors, accented by vanilla and tobacco. Maturing now, but still fresh on the palate."
Mature wine that still has sufficient structure to match well with food.

Emilio Lustau Jerez East India Solera
Spain - 90 Wine Spectator
"Rich and concentrated with coffee and caramel flavors in a balanced presentation. Picks up a grilled nut accent on the finish. Solid and complex, but not cloying. Drink now."
A real tribute to the Portuguese sailors who drank the sherry on the voyage to India.
